Quick Keto Facts

keto ketosis mental health Jan 24, 2023

Ketones are compounds produced by the liver when the body is in a state of ketosis, which occurs when the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. This metabolic state can be achieved by following a ketogenic diet, which is high in fat, moderate in protein, and very low in carbohydrates.

Recent research suggests that ketones may have beneficial effects on mental health, particularly in women over 40. One study found that a ketogenic diet improved symptoms of depression in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. Other research has shown that ketones can increase the production of a neurotransmitter called GABA, which helps to regulate mood and reduce anxiety.

Also, ketones have been found to have neuroprotective properties and may help to improve cognitive function and memory. This can be especially beneficial for women over 40 who may be experiencing age-related cognitive decline. This is why I love being in ketosis myself, the benefits are outstanding.
