Rest The Hidden Power of Healing for Body and Mind

Over the years Ive come to realize the incredible power of rest. We often hear experts advise us to rest when we're recovering from a virus, a common cold, or even stress. But what if I told you that rest can go beyond just physical recovery? What if I told you that it can also heal us emotionally?

Let me share my perspective on rest, particularly when it comes to our digestive system. You see, I believe that giving our bodies a break from constantly digesting and processing food can do wonders. It's like giving our internal systems a chance to repair and rejuvenate.

Sometimes, when we're stressed, we tend to turn to our favourite comfort foods. We may eat out of fatigue, hoping that food will give us a much-needed energy boost. But more often than not, it does the opposite. It weighs us down, and the energy that could be used for healing and restoration gets tied up in the digestion process.

Personally, I've discovered that fasting, especially during emotionally draining times, makes a significant difference. When life becomes overwhelming with endless tasks, commitments, and the added responsibility of homeschooling kids, I've been tempted to eat my way through it. I've made the mistake of thinking that food would provide the energy or treat I deserve. But in reality, it never works.

What truly works is fasting. Or, if fasting feels too challenging, simply eat less. I've found that spacing my meals 4-5 hours apart and avoiding unnecessary snacking has actually given me more energy and mental clarity.

So, the next time you find yourself stressed out, overwhelmed, overworked, or upset, consider finding peace in the discipline of mindful eating. Recognize that by allowing your body to rest from constant food intake, you'll gain more energy and mental clarity. Food won't cloud your thoughts while you navigate through challenging moments.
